Human rights activists are in panic: 10 drug dealers were executed in Iran

23.10.2012

Today the mass media of the Near East spread the information, posted on the official account of the Tehran (Iran) prosecutor’s office, which stated that the next death penalties of the drug dealers, detained at the territory of the country, were enforced. This time 10 criminals were hanged.

“International amnesty”, the most active human rights organization, has called the authorities of Iran to break up with practice of hanging people for crimes, related with drug production and spread. The head of this organization considers this measure of punishment too strict for these types of crimes.

Another argument for the denial of death penalties in Iran, is that legislation of the country doesn’t guarantee the rights of a suspect for the conduction of the trial and the right to appeal.

It is worth mentioning the statistics that NGO “International amnesty” provides. Only for the last 10 months of the current year 344 people, the majority of whom are drug dealers, were executed in Iran. For the whole last 2011 year, 360 people were executed, no less than three fourth of them were caught, while selling drugs.
