France: The call for marijuana legalization

23.10.2012

The cancer and AIDS patients started to call for marijuana legalization, or at least for mitigation of punishment for smoking. Scientists, doctors and lawyers have already started the discussion of this issue in the French Strasbourg.

The thing is that for the present time the marijuana smokers, if caught by the police, are immediately faced to one year of imprisonment and fine of 3750 euro. The sellers and cultivators are faced to 20 years of imprisonment and the fine of 7 million euro.

For now, cannabis based medications are allowed to be sold in a small doze and under the strict control of the doctors, whereas it’s freely sold with prescription in the neighboring countries,” –the activists for the legalization from the organization “Active principles” stated.

In addition, supporters for the free sale of marijuana stand for the self cultivation, since it will help to avoid the use of the bad-quality products, bought in suspicious places.
