Recently, the journalists of the famous Italian edition L’Espresso held the week tour to the heroin underground of Europe. The journalistic investigation let them come to the disappointing conclusion: heroin is back again.
Journalists managed to see the notable differences in “today’s” heroin addiction. First, it has become more popular among youth. It is normal to meet the 18-20 year old addicts with the drug experience of no less than 5 years at the streets of European cities. Two representatives of the “heroin youth” are 18 year old Mikel D. and her younger sister Camilla, with whom journalists spent a week, while working on their reportage. Second, the heroin addiction in Europe became less notable. Now, you can rarely meet the person with punctured arms and festering veins. Heroin is now smelled and smoked. Third, drug dealers have quickly adapted to the changed demand. Now, heroin is cleaner and has more effect on the psychic set-up.

For the first time Mikel tried drugs at the roof of her school, where she missed classes with her mates. After, she started trying everything, what was offered to her. This is how heroin appeared in her life. “It changed your life completely. You start lying. You steal from your close ones. You start fighting with them… This is where your life comes to an end,” – the young addict concluded.
