According to Mexican authorities, the strong deficit of syringes among injecting addicts is noted in the north regions of the country, where drug addiction turned into the epidemic, literally saying. This caused the rapid growth of the HIV, AIDS and hepatite C infected.
The last research of the Global Fund for AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria control, which always finances researches for permanent monitoring of the situation, showed that the spread of HIV and AIDS diseases is 5,77%.
The organization, which works in the following direction in the north of Mexico "Strengthening the national strategies for prevention and harm reduction for gay men, prostitutes and injecting drug users" notes that the most complicated situation with the spread of the abovementioned diseases is in the largest cities of the region Tijuana, Ciudad-Juarez and Hermosillo. Ten thousands out of 1,5 million people living there are drug addicts.
At the moment 28 programs on supplying the addicts with clean syringes are being realized by the Mexican Authorities and charity organizations, yet this is not enough. The calculations show, that they manage to provide only around 7 syringes for one drug addict per year, whereas the required amount is 200.
To fully meet the needs of the drug addicts in clean syringes, the required budget must be around $600 thousand dollars annually.
