New book of Joanne Rowling: sex, drugs and village politics

29.09.2012

On September 27, “The Casual Vacancy”, a new novel by J.K. Rowling (the author of the books about Harry Potter’s adventures) was put on sale.

This is the first work of the English author written exclusively for adults. The book describes the life of the imaginary city Pagford, the battle for the city mayor position and various concomitant conflicts.

Critics, who published their first novel reviews in the morning of the premiere, agree that novel has nothing in common with “Harry Potter”, being abandoned by the night scenes of sex, drug abuse, and dirty language.

Thus, one of the journalists highlight the scene of rape of a girl by a drug dealer, who is the father of her stepbrothers. Thereby, J.K. Rowling agreed with a concern that the novel should not fall into the hands of children.

The Internet version of “The Casual Vacancy” is sold for $17 and the hard one for $ 25. The novel in Russian will appear by the end of this year.
