On March 5, 2013 in Bishkek, the opening of the international exhibition “MayaPlanet: World against drug addiction" took place.
The event was held at the Faculty of Information Technology of the Kyrgyz-Turkish University "Manas". Until May 5, 2013, the traveling exhibition will be presented in the leading secondary and higher educational institutions in Bishkek and then it will travel to the city of Osh.
The World League "Mind Free of Drugs" in cooperation with the Civil Service on Drug Control under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Fund of Progressive Initiatives has organized an international exhibition. The event was attended by representatives of Jogorku Kenesh, Parliament, diplomatic corps, international organizations and the media.
"Such activities are useful and effective as means of preventing drug abuse among youth, - says the head of non-governmental foundation "Prosvet" Erkinzhan Musaev. – We are on the way of the mainstream of drug trafficking, all the heroin passes through our country and that is why we are the most vulnerable to this problem".
The main objective of the exhibition is to prevent the drug abuse among young people and the realization of the mission of the World League – to form immunity to drugs in the society as part of the 50-year program of the organization. After being held in Kyrgyzstan, the exhibition “Maya Planet: World against drug addiction" will take place in other countries of the region - Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Further, it will continue its way to major cities in Europe, Middle East, Australia, the U.S., Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
"Such activities raise the general level of our country in the world arena, because our citizen – Dr. Nazaraliev is the leader of such a serious international organization. He raises an important issue, takes up the sword and lights the torches on all five continents, - says the Human Rights Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic Tursunbek Akun. – The world must be drug-free. This is very important, and all human rights defenders, including ombudsmen from around the world, must support this initiative".
The World League "Mind Free of Drugs" began to gather the material for this exhibit in November 3, 2010. This is the day when the transnational internet contest Maya Planet (www.mayaplanet.org), devoted to the problems of drug addiction started. Currently this competition has collected more than 2100 unique works from 150 countries in four categories: drawing, photography, video and confessional story. The best 60 works from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America were presented at the exhibition.
"In Brazil, we are trying to fight drug addiction not only by closing the drug trafficking border, but also through the creation of programs aimed at the development of sports and other public events. And, of course, treatment is an integral part of the antidrug program - said Ambassador of Brazil to Kazakhstan Beato Osvaldo Junior. – We actively support the initiative of the World League in Kyrgyzstan, the organizers held a fundamental and important work".
On March 6, the exhibition also opened at the main building of the KNU. Next Monday, March 12, another exhibition will be presented at AUCA, March 18 - at the Medical Academy, March 25 in the KRSU. News about the exhibition can be found on the official event page on Facebook and on our website.
