Iran police stopped drug caravan in the border with Pakistan. The drivers appeared to be drug smugglers and their camels were loaded with 11 metric tons of drugs. The smugglers weren’t desirous of getting rid of goods, thus a gunfight with police took place there.
Local dwellers came to help police after hearing shootings. In the end with the help of local dwellers police officers were able to disarm smugglers and seize drugs. One of the smugglers got injuries, one died during the gun fight. No camel was hurt.
Confiscated consignment of drugs is by far the largest in annals of countering illicit drug trafficking in Iran. This country is transfer base of two key drug trafficking routes from Afghanistan and Gulf countries to Europe.
