Cough or life

Most of us are aware of medicines called Ibuprofen, Solpadeine or Pentalginum. When one gets cold one immediately take these medicines to maintain well-being and working capacity. In the meantime, the basic component of these medicines is codeine that is at first thought painkiller however deriving from morphine.

Like any other opiate, codeine is a good pain killers, it discards cough, helps to feel one better but causes strong physical and psychological addiction. Due to the chemical processes taking place in organism approximately 10% of codeine turns into morphia. As a result, one is not able to quit using drugs about which he hadn’t any notion. It is not surprising that there are a lot of people that are codeine-addicted. For example, in the southern states of the US there are lot of people that are addicted to cough syrup that contains this drug.

Without doubt it takes weeks and months to get addicted to these drugs when one uses for therapy reasons but when there is overdose this term is shortened. Codeine helps person to be in mood, forget about problems but when person stops using it he gets into sadness and depression. Most often people that quit using these drugs, their hair turn grey, nails crumble, and teeth come out.

This year codeine-containing medicines have become subject to prescription in Russia, however they remain freely distributed in most of the countries of the world, and people continue to get addicted knowing nothing about it. The usage of drugs often starts from ignorance. Not many know but heroin was first invented to cure cough.
