Questions

  • Doctors tend not to talk about "recovered drug addicts," and prefer the term "inactive addicts" those who dont use drugs right at given moment. In your opinion, is it not possible to get rid of this label? Even in the opinion of drug treatment experts, patients remain forever addicted. How can the modern society be taught to have an adequate attitude toward former drug addicts and consider them as a part of the society?

Medicine really believes that drug addiction is an incurable disease. And it is difficult to disagree with it. There are some people who are under a long-term remission condition, meaning they are abstained from the drug use. I personally really like the statement: "you cannot be cured – but you can get better." You just really need to concentrate on your will. The role of the family and public support cannot be overestimated here as well. Today we use a number of measures to eliminate the stigma and discrimination towards drug addicts. In many ways, some programs for harm reduction of drug use contribute to this. For example, in Kyrgyzstan, this practice succeeded to some extent in changing people's attitude to the drug addicts, making people more tolerant towards them. Most importantly, this has been achieved on the level of the law enforcement officials.

It is important to strengthen this relationship, to develop social and psychological programs with both the public and co-dependents, and drug users themselves, who decided to "stop". Not every state can offer them jobs and social housing. But I am sure, we must give people a chance. Personally I know some people who have conquered addiction, they are back into normal life, have created a families and are raising children. "Hope springs eternal!"

  • Can creativity be an alternative to drugs?

This is not my words, but I totally agree with the statement that any person has its own creator sitting inside, who just needs to be found. If it could be possible to identify and develop hidden talents, if the person was offered a helping hand when he needed it, and if he was directed to the right path at the right time, all these would solve so many problems. For example, instead of alcohol, violence and drugs as ways of expression, a person was given a saxophone, trumpet, or a brush and canvas, it would increase the possibility of a healthy society.

  • In you opinion how important is parental education and relationships within the family in preventing drug addiction?

Family plays probably the most important role in the development process of human beings. Let us take Europe as an example. The process of globalization has made its own corrections. Young people leave early their families, strive to live separately from their parents, away from their influence. This brought a lot of problems, but it has to be considered. We realize now that nepotism and family values are the key features to a healthy future of any nation. The family is probably the most important in the development of man. Take the example of Europe. The process of globalization has made its own adjustments.

Not so long ago, the Poles, for example, made a series of social advertizements under one slogan "Closer to each other - away from drugs." The advertizements clearly demonstrate how important are the parental attention and understanding in the family. Child must always feel and know that he can come to his parents with any problems and will be understood by them. Especially during the adolescence period. Currently, we are now trying to build up our anti-drug prevention program, based on the family values. In Central Asia, where, by and large, patriarchal cult of the family still largely preserved - this is the most effective.

  • What should be in the Internet age and growth of online communities informational methods to combat drug addiction? What do you think, what means will be most effective today, and how the state should behave in order to successfully affect the suffering of drug addiction and to conduct prevention among healthy population?

I'll start with reverse. From the point that, in my opinion, it's time to exclude. There should not be different kind of "horror stories" such as, for example, if you use drugs, at the age of fifty you will become impotent. He is now 15, and young people live for the day. The last couple of years, these type of materials have captivated all possible sources to the point that they became ineffective at all.

Right now we need to rely on something that is inherent in the Internet era - that excites young people, something that young people would respond to. For example, social C This is what we use now, and what is indeed effective. For example, the following social advertizement. We ask some young popular singer: "What is the euphoria?". He explains, "Euphoria for me is when I perfectly perform my own part as a singer. This is what I get high from", etc. This should be brief, not prolonged, and catchy. In the XXI century boring lecture about the dangers of drug abuse no longer really make any sense. The practice of anti-drug prevention should not be intrusive and cause aversion.

At the same time it should be more accessible and should be used much more widely. In Europe, high-tech is being used in all the spheres of the society. But there are also third-world countries, where computer - is a luxury thing for the average citizen, but the number of drug addicts unfortunately rolls over. In this case it is necessary to look for other methods of influence.
