Questions

  • In the century of the Internet and new communication technologies, what are the methods of informational war against drug abuse? What method is the most effective today; what should the government do in order to reach drug addicts and to conduct preventive measures among healthy population groups?

Withholding, such as stopping to use narcotic drugs and moving away from a self-given entity (for example by staying in the desert, or aboard, or sometimes not that far away) brings back the person to his primary needs, such as eating, drinking, covering, defending oneself, the need of communication with a person or a group of people. The realization of these goals, I think, is a very interesting direction to consider. In case of a refusal from the general withholding, it would be interesting to lead the drug addict to “control” his drug usage, which starts from the pont when he himself chooses the product of high quakity, what is more, to fing his individual consumption limit to help him to normally function in the society, to work, to have a full social and emotional life, etc.... Managing his own consuption allows to limit the draught to prohibition.

As far as possible aforementioned activities must be a subject matter of a therapeutic contract with the drug addict pacient, in order to fix him with liability and invest only the treatment. The work on emotions and mood is very crucial since drug addict is highly depended from the narcotic drugs. Maintenance of personal diary, consecutive writing of all emotional feelings and worries at the moment of coming desire of drugs is also an interesting therapeutic course. In this context, the work on preceding traumas, among which is the drug dependency and/or other behavioural risks that appear to be only symptoms, is also very important. EMDR (emdr-belgium.be) is highly effective and capable engagement in the process of treatment of psychological trauma.

Regarding the society attitude towards drug addicts, I think, the promotion of law, limitations addopted in every culture will allow to trace the orienting points. Even when the drug usage is allowed, there are various methods of disposal in the society and there are always limitations. During the extention period of market and trade thanks to the Internet, taking care of the consumable product quality and/or offer the customer the opportunity to control the quality is an important step.

Regarding the reintegration process, I think switching from the treatment centers or even imprisonment to giving more freedom, must be the object of close attention, in order to not work purposeless, what is more, to lay responsibility to the patient, who wishes to restore socially.
